REI Automation makes Inc. magazine’s list of fastest-growing companies in U.S.

September 1, 2019

REI Automation, a Columbia-based company that specializes in designing and building custom industrial equipment, just made Inc. magazine’s prestigious “Inc. 5000” list of fastest-growing privately held companies in the country.

Billed by the magazine as a list of “The Most Successful Companies in America,” the 2019 rankings appeared on Inc.com on Aug. 14.

This is REI’s first time on the list. It debuted at No. 3,317, thanks to growth of 108 percent over the period from 2015 through 2018, with $20.3 million in revenue.

“Our team at REI works together to create innovative, robust solutions for our customers while demonstrating kindness, initiative and dedication,” said REI President Grant Phillips. “This new recognition shows that this is an approach that works, for our customers and for our company.”

Companies on the 2019 Inc. 5000 are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2015 to 2018. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2015. They must be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit, and independent – not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2018.

In its first issue in 1979, Inc. magazine published the Inc. 100, a list of the fastest-growing publicly held small companies; in 1982, the list was expanded to become the Inc. 500, and in 2007, it was expanded again to become the Inc. 5000.

REI is one of eight Columbia companies to make the list this year.
