Home Works to be featured on upcoming episode of new television series ‘Making Good’

September 18, 2019

On Wednesday September 25, SC nonprofit Home Works will be featured on the new television series ‘Making Good,’ a docuseries on BYUtv airing in an estimated 64 million households. Created and directed by Greg Kiefer, produced by Ron Johnson and hosted by Kirby Heyborne, ‘Making Good’ features nonprofit organizations nationwide who are addressing different needs in their communities through a variety of unique programs.

The show’s crew filmed in January during a Home Works work day in the Midlands, when more than 50 local students and adults repaired the home of a West Columbia neighbor. Several areas and landmarks in the Midlands were also filmed and will be featured throughout the episode as a nod to the capital city.

Home Works is grateful to be able to share its mission and its “why” on this large platform! The 9/25 episode can be viewed at 8:30 pm EST via the BYUtv channel on most major cable providers, or later through the channel’s website (byutv.org/makinggood) or the BYUtv app.

Home Works

Home Works is a 501(c)(3) with a mission to show God’s love through service to others, by repairing the homes of elderly and disadvantaged homeowners, assisting youth in their development and empowering communities to care for their own members. Since 1996, more than 45,000 youth and adult volunteers have repaired more than 2,700 homes for elderly, disabled or veteran homeowners who qualify based on income/ownership guidelines.

A typical homeowner assisted by Home Works is a 70-year-old widow, annually living on $12,000. Home Works oversees various repair projects, ranging from the replacement of roofs to the construction of ramps, the gutting of bathrooms, the repairing of ceilings and the painting of walls. Home Works creates a context in which youth are mentored in life-skills even as they intersect poverty-stricken homeowners in a context of transformation. At every Home Works repair project, construction meets compassion.
