Last week the American Heart Association held its Lowcountry Heart Walk Executive Kickoff at Wild Dunes Resort with more than 100 attendees. Hosted by campaign sponsor Lowe, the event celebrated the local companies and individuals committed to sponsoring and raising funds for the walk, which will be held on February 29, 2020.

“The support from companies throughout the Lowcountry for this important cause is tremendous, but we have many miles ahead on our journey to combat heart disease in our community,” said Lowcountry Heart Walk Chairman Jim Newsome of the South Carolina Ports Authority. “I encourage all businesses, large and small, to get involved. Start a team, register to walk – no act of support is too small.”

Each year, the Lowcountry Heart Walk attracts more than 5,000 participants and 70 organizations dedicated to eradicating cardiovascular disease.

“Wild Dunes was proud to host this large philanthropic group of community leaders,” said Dan Battista, Lowe’s senior vice president in Charleston and member of the Lowcountry Heart Walk’s executive leadership team. “The Lowcountry Heart Walk is a cause very much aligned with Lowe’s corporate values and culture, and we are hopeful events like last night’s Executive Kickoff will encourage more Lowcountry businesses to get involved in the upcoming Heart Walk.”

“We are looking forward to a great event turnout on February 29, where we expect to surpass $1 million in proceeds,” said Katie Schumacher, the American Heart Association’s Executive Director in Charleston. “The Lowcountry Heart Walk is essential in helping fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat heart disease.”
