September 23, 2019

Employers and human resource professionals in South Carolina can take the next step in building a diverse and inclusive workforce at Hire Me SC’s annual Employer Summit: Mobilizing an Untapped Workforce on Oct. 2, 2019. Learn more and register at https://www.hiremesc.org/employer-summit.

The summit coincides with South Carolina Disability Employment Awareness Month this October. The agenda consists of mini-sessions, roundtable discussions and more, offering insights about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities. Topics include how to effectively recruit people with disabilities and tips for establishing a practical, inclusive employment strategy.

The Governor’s Proclamation of Disability Employment Awareness Month will be read during the summit, and special remarks will be made by keynote speaker Nick Schacht, chief global development officer for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

“Many people who make hiring decisions are aware of the benefits of having a diverse staff,” says Sandy Jordan, director of employment programs at Able South Carolina. “But unfortunately, people with disabilities often still encounter barriers to gainful employment. Bringing awareness and education to those making hiring decisions is a vital part of working toward a state that engages the entirety of its workforce.”

The Hire Me SC Employer Summit is powered by Able South Carolina and the SC Disability Employment Coalition, a collaborative statewide effort of over 40 employers, state agencies, private entities and individuals with disabilities working to address the employment barriers of people with disabilities in South Carolina. Sponsors for the event include the Administration for Community Living, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Milliken, SC Society for Human Resource Management, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Vista Insurance Group and SC Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

The 2019 Employer Summit: Mobilizing an Untapped Workforce, will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 2, 2019, at The Palmetto Club, 1231 Sumter St., Columbia, SC 29201. Lunch and valet parking are provided, and the event is approved for 3.5 hours of SHRM and HRCI credit.
