Wild Dunes Resort hosts Women’s Construction Group for annual conference, new hotel site tour

October 21, 2019

On October 18, Wild Dunes Resort, a Destination Hotel, hosted the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) for the industry group’s South Atlantic Region Fall Conference at the resort’s Sweetgrass Pavilion. The group’s local Palmetto Chapter of South Carolina hosted members employed in various positions in the construction field in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

During the conference, more than 100 NAWIC members took a behind-the-scenes tour of the construction site at Wild Dunes Resort’s new 153-key hotel. The tour was guided by Lowe’s construction manager, Amie Hammer, who has 20 years of experience in the construction industry. Lowe has owned the existing resort since the early 1990s and is building the new hotel, which will be completed in April 2021.

“We were thrilled to host this important group of female professionals at Wild Dunes Resort and to showcase our active construction site,” Hammer said. “In the male-dominated construction field, it’s a delight to see a dedicated group of my peers in hard hats working to bring so many important projects to life.”

Once completed, Wild Dunes Resort’s new hotel will span four acres and will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including: 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, an 8,000-square-foot grand ballroom with pre-function and terrace event space, a 3,000-square-foot-rooftop ballroom with a 6,000-square-foot terrace with stunning ocean views, a 10,000-square-foot spa and salon with 14 treatment rooms, a 2,750-square foot-fitness center, expanded pools with a kids splash pad and a poolside restaurant and bar.

“By focusing on professional development and employment opportunities for females in the field, NAWIC is dedicated to opening the door for future generations of women in construction,” said Janet Bates, NAWIC’s Palmetto Chapter president. “We were delighted to have the opportunity to tour the site of the new hotel, especially with a company like Lowe that supports female leadership roles in our field.”
