As 2019 comes to a close, Prisma Health Midlands Foundation is reflecting upon the last decade of community support and celebrating the impact donors have made at Prisma Health—Midlands.
From 2010 to 2019, more than 110,000 donor gifts have helped Prisma Health Midlands Foundation raise more than $66 million for Prisma Health—Midlands. Of each dollar raised over the last 10 years through the Foundation, an average of $.96 was spent on equipment, programs and services vital to the mission of Prisma Health—Midlands.
Innovative technology, health care advancements and vital programs and services supported by the Foundation, its boards and community donors over the last decade include—
Joyce Martin Hill Behavioral Health Center, Prisma Health Richland Hospital:
The center provides specialized emergency care to behavioral health patients.
Pediatric Surgery Center, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands:
The center offers a dedicated space for pediatric surgery patients. Just prior to the opening of the surgery center, the Foundation completed a $21.5 million capital campaign to renovate and expand Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands.
SimCOACH™ Mobile Simulation Laboratory, Prisma Health-University of South Carolina School of Medicine Simulation Center:
SimCOACH™ is a fully-equipped mobile simulation platform that extends the Simulation Center team’s ability to provide high-tech simulation-based training to health care providers across the state.
3D Digital Mammography, Prisma Health Breast Center:
3D digital mammography is offered at all Prisma Health Breast Center locations and on the mobile mammography unit.
Child Abuse Medical Assessment Program, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands:
This assessment program helps Child Abuse Pediatrics health care providers and other team members evaluate children sooner and help remove them from dangerous abuse or neglect situations.
daVinci® Robotic Surgery System:
This robotic system offers the most advanced, minimally invasive surgery available.
Portable CT scanner, Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, Prisma Health Richland Hospital:
The portable scanner allows patients with a stroke, aneurysm or other neurological injury to stay in place for important tests and helps caregivers make decisions quickly, without interruption.
Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands:
The center, the oldest and largest facility of its kind in South Carolina, helps children and families affected by cancer and blood disorders. CAMP KEMO Programs, fully funded by community support, provide psychosocial support from the moment of diagnosis through the end of treatment and beyond.
The Sandra and Leon Levine Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Center, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands:
The center offers South Carolina’s first pediatric inpatient rehabilitation program for children with life-altering conditions or injuries that require specialized rehabilitation.
Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital:
The region’s first new hospital in more than a decade.
Gamma Knife®, Prisma Health Cancer Centers:
This technology offers a non-invasive tool for brain-related conditions.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Prisma Health Richland Hospital:
Seven Giraffe™ OmniBed™ Carestations™ were funded for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where approx. 800 premature and critically-ill babies from across the region are taken care of every year. These humidified, closed isolettes are designed to help premature babies maintain their temperature and create a “next best” environment to the mother’s womb.
Looking ahead to early 2020, Prisma Health Midlands Foundation will celebrate the opening of Hannah’s Garden, a place of respite for children with cancer and blood disorders, treated at the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands. In 2000, Baptist Medical Center Foundation and Richland Memorial Hospital Foundation merged to form Palmetto Health Foundation, now known as Prisma Health Midlands Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. Gifts to the Foundation stay in the Midlands community to support Prisma Health—Midlands.
