Proclaim your #LibraryLove this February

February 3, 2020

Get ready to uncover your emotions during Library Lovers Month. It’s the perfect time to share personal experiences and feelings about the value that Richland Library brings to your life and the community.

Throughout February, our staff is trying to find ways to capture your heart. We’re featuring three resources that are new to our library system.

Get reading recommendations on Twitter. #365DaysOfBooks produces daily selections at 10 a.m. while #AskALibrarian generates personalized picks from 12 – 1 p.m., Thursdays.

Keep the conversation going with TableTopics. These sets of 100+ game cards pose questions, covering an array of subjects, and lead to meaningful discussions with family, friends, or colleagues. Currently, there are three versions available: family; teen; and adult. Customers can place these sets on hold at any library location.

Take our Makerspaces and Studios on the go with the Library of Things. It’s a collection of equipment that customers can check out from our Main location (1431 Assembly Street), and it includes: a podcasting kit; photography kit, microphone kit, backdrop kit and lighting kit. The goal is to reduce barriers for entrepreneurs, creatives, and lifelong learners by providing access to quality equipment. For borrowing guidelines, visit richlandlibrary.com, and for availability, please call 803-929-3455.

In addition, we’re reflecting on two resources that are popular among our customers.

Combat fake news with the NewsGuard browser extension, which became available on public computers at all of our library locations in 2019. Using a color-coded system, it helps users figure out whether the material that they’re reading on websites or social media feeds is reliable or not.

Don’t forget about the library’s fine free policy. In June 2019, we joined Charleston County Public Library as the only two public libraries in the state of South Carolina that no longer accrue overdue fines on any library materials. Almost 70,000 customers benefited from having their overdue fines erased, and more than 23,000 customers, who accounts were previously blocked due to overdue fines, were reinstated.
