Rob Grant named interim principal at North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary
June 15, 2020Charleston County School District (CCSD) is proud to announce Robert “Rob” Grant as interim principal at North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary School (NCCAES). Grant joins NCCAES from Charleston County School of the Arts where he has served as an assistant principal since 2011.
Grant began his teaching career in 1993 at Michelangelo Middle School in Bronx, NY. For nine years, Grant taught eighth grade social studies and special needs inclusion classes. During this time, he was the recipient of the Thurgood Marshall African- American Teacher’s Award and was selected for Who’s Who in Teaching for his outstanding work and excellence in the classroom. In 2002, Grant became the Dean of Students at Michelangelo where he managed over 2,200 students while improving the tone and climate of the school through the implementation of specific student expectations, accountability, and effective student rapport.
Grant relocated to South Carolina in 2005 joining CCSD at Brentwood Middle School as an assistant principal. Over the next 15 years, Grant would go on to serve as an administrator within the district at various secondary schools including Daniel Jenkins Academy (2008), Lincoln High School (2009), and School of the Arts (2011). He also was a participant in CCSD’s Principals for Tomorrow Program, Literacy Leader for Administrators Program, as well as the South Carolina Department of Education’s
Developing Aspiring Principals Program, Career and Technology Education Cohort, and Transformational Leadership Academy.
Grant earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Fordham University, a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Lehman College, and a Master of Science in School Administration and Supervision from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He also holds his superintendent and secondary and elementary education principal certifications for South Carolina.
