Prom Season Concludes with Laurens District 55 High School Prom on the Square
June 7, 2021
The Buzz has reported on the two other Laurens County “prom nights” so we had to be sure to get the last one, Laurens District 55 High School.
Laurens District 55 High School prom was held on Saturday, June 5th outside on the square in Laurens. The theme for the open-air prom was “a night to remember” and from all accounts, it truly was. Brooke Yarbrough was in charge of the event and along with many teachers and volunteers, worked hard to put together the festival like event.
Attendance of prom guests was 288 so with chaperones, an estimated 350 filled the square. Students were dressed in their finest, smiling and laughing with each other, and dancing the night away to music provided by B. White the DJ.
Local restaurants partnered with the high school to provide the food with options that included Romas, The Capitol Theatre, Midtown Building – Smoke on the Water. The Coffee Roost which just reopened that afternoon in their new location on the square offered a 2 for $5 drink special and introduced the Boba Brain Freeze. Other local businesses including Chick-Fil-A, Laurens County CPW, The Ridge at Laurens, the Gather, the Vault, Edward Jones and the Old County Courthouse provided monetary donations, places for restroom use, snacks, drinks and seating. Holmes Photography, Poet Photography and the Laurens County Museum provided for a variety of photo opportunities around the square.
The Capital Theater showed High School Musical after the prom.
Staging an event like this is big undertaking. The LDHS Wrestling program and LDHS Student Council were instrumental in both the set up and take down of the event. Security was provided by Laurens City Police Captain, Heath Copeland and Laurens County Deputy, Scott Patterson and their respective teams.
This past year has been a strange one for teachers and students. The kids have missed so many things, but prom night is not one of them. They got the prom they deserve and truly seemed to appreciate it, every minute of the night. It really was a night to remember.
