Local nonprofit professionals launch company to help South Carolina charities

July 1, 2021

Calloway Stern Group, a nonprofit project management firm that provides solutions to Lowcountry charities, announced its launch recently. The company aims to assist small to medium sized nonprofit organizations in increasing their capacity in a fiscally responsible way.

“Calloway Stern was created in response to a need we were seeing across the sector,” says Katy Calloway, the company’s co-founder. “Post pandemic, nonprofits were desperate for funding and had laid off staff. It’s the chicken or egg debate: how do you raise money if you don’t have staff to raise money? Our goal is to help organizations through hands-on, project based work.”

The company, with over 40 years of experience in the nonprofit arena, works with Lowcountry organizations by serving as a fractional development department, available as needed. The approach is antithetical to the traditional consultancy model. Calloway Stern Group serves to complete the needed projects for the charities, not just tell them how to do it.

“Katy and I are excited to share our experience and expertise with the Lowcountry, nonprofit community,” says Daniel Stern, co-founder of Calloway Stern Group. “I have been an Executive Director for three Charleston nonprofits, and had this option been available to me, I would have certainly taken advantage of it.”

In addition to providing effective solutions for community based organizations, Calloway Stern Group also works with donors and businesses to design and deliver effective social responsponsibility programs that seek to affect positive changes in Lowcountry communities.
