Taproom Coming to Clinton Spring/Summer 2022
August 15, 2021There’s some great history in the DE Tribble buildings located on Gary Street in downtown Clinton. Known as the Lowes of the ole days, DE Tribble was once a busy lumberyard serving the local community. The history of the buildings also includes a Pittsburgh Paint store, a funeral home and oil change garage station.
With the sale of the buildings on Friday, August 13th to new owners, Charlie and Stacey Michaels, the buildings will get a much-needed renovation and a new chapter in a rich history in Clinton will begin.
So, what’s next for the property?
The new owners plan to create a vibrant and welcoming beer and wine taproom room in one of the buildings. With the removal of the dilapidated roof in the third building and a fence around the property, the location will be perfect for an open-air indoor/outdoor entertainment venue complete with ample parking.
The Michaels are from Bluffton, South Carolina. So how does a couple from Bluffton decide to open a tap room in Clinton, SC?
Charlie and Stacey have a lake house in Waterloo, and they have been coming to Clinton on weekends for years to exercise at CrossFit864.
“We fell in love with the charm of Clinton’s downtown,” said Charlie Michaels. “We started talking with Janice Long (owner of CrossFit864) about some of the open buildings and saw the DE Tribble buildings on one our runs.” The rest is history.
The City of Clinton sold the property to the Michaels for $75,000. The property is just shy of .60 acres and two of the buildings already have a new roof and replacement windows.
The new owners have a vision for bringing a warm and inviting space to downtown Clinton and the work will start soon. An architect has already been secured and work could start as soon as next week.
“We love the character of the buildings, from the old vault to the elevator pulley and we plan to keep as much of it as possible,” said new owner Charlie Michaels.
Good bones, a new look and more memories ahead for these historic buildings.
Cheers to that!
