Palmetto GBA retains Third Party Administrator (TPA) contract for additional 5 years

August 16, 2021

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded Palmetto GBA the Third Party Administrator (TPA) contract. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 initiated the need for a Coverage Gap Discount Program (CGDP) TPA contractor to facilitate payments between pharmaceutical manufacturers and Part D sponsors. Palmetto GBA was awarded the stand-alone contract in 2012, with this new contract continuing through 2026.

The TPA contract for the Medicare Part D CGDP requires development, testing, implementation, operation, maintenance and customer service necessary to meet the needs of many, including CMS, pharmaceutical manufacturers, Part D sponsors and contracted CMS personnel involved with the operation and administration of the Medicare Coverage Gap Discount Program.

“Palmetto GBA is pleased to continue serving as the TPA contractor, facilitating this important work for CMS. The TPA contract plays a critical role in facilitating payments between manufacturers and Part D plans to ensure eligible Medicare beneficiaries have access to available manufacturer discounts while in the coverage gap,” says Nella Bishop, chief information officer and vice president of systems and support for Palmetto GBA.
