September 27, 2021

The University of South Carolina’s Office of Economic Engagement, in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Commerce, announces the opening of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center of South Carolina (PTAC SC). In an effort to improve the state’s overall economy, PTAC SC will provide South Carolina businesses, both large and small, the resources and services required to obtain contracts and subcontracts with the U.S. Department of Defense as well as federal, state and local governments.

PTAC SC will provide each of the state’s 46 counties with the following assistance: identifying marketing opportunities for clients’ products/services; advising and assisting clients in preparation and submission of applications, certifications and registrations for doing business with federal, state and local governments; advising and assisting clients with the preparation and submission of bids/proposals and post-award functions; bid matching service; and pursuing subcontracting opportunities.

The PTAC SC office will have a concerted focus on seeking out and assisting with small business concerns including Small Disadvantaged Businesses concerns (SDB), Women-Owned Small Businesses concerns (WOSB), HUBZone small business concerns and Service- Disabled Veteran- Owned Small Business concerns (SDVOSB).

“Many businesses throughout the state have expressed their interest in learning how to do business with all levels of government. I’m excited that PTAC SC will help provide the assistance they need to help them achieve their goals by providing procurement counseling, marketing and bid matching services.” PTAC SC State Manager Ron Conner said.

Administered by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs) provide businesses the resources needed to receive military contracts. The DLA supplies more than $42 billion in goods and services on an annual basis, the majority of which come from businesses that utilize the respective state procurement technical assistance center. Nationwide, PTACs secured over $24 billion in government contracts and subcontracts for over 57,000 businesses in 2019 alone.

This procurement technical assistance center is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Defense Logistics Agency. PTAC SC is also funded through a partnership with the University of South Carolina and the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
