Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum Repairs Underway

February 5, 2022

It’s been a long time coming but the repairs to the dilapidated mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery are underway.

In September of last year we reported that as a result of the inspection, some demolition would be required. That work was completed during the week of August 23rd. Another inspection led them to determine that more demolition would be necessary. The additional demolition was completed and a structural engineer inspected the facility again.  The final review and analysis were completed and a scope of work created for the project.

In January of this year, StoneMar finalized an agreement with Matthews Gibralter to complete the needed repairs. Due to the extensive nature of the repairs needed, there is no completion date. The first stage of repairs began on January 24th.  It will be a slow process but StoneMar is committed to bringing the mausoleum back to the condition it should be in.

Rep. Stewart Jones has been in regular communication with StoneMar about the project. “While this isn’t happening as fast as we’d like, I will continue to ensure that the mausoleum at the Forest Lawn cemetery gets fixed,” said Jones.

The repair plan consists of the following initiatives:

  • Roof structure repairs
  • Erosion control and water diversion
  • Chapel ceiling and wall repairs
  • Shoring of elevated walkways during repairs
  • Railing and handrail replacement
  • Walls and columns/beams repairs
  • Crypt front replacement and repair where applicable
  • Column and footing repair and reinforcement
