District 56 lead nurse recognized by Palmetto Gold nursing program

District 56 Lead Nurse Shalina Mode earned statewide recognition for excellence in the nursing profession. Shalina Mode, RN received the Palmetto Gold Award, placing her among 100 nurses across the state to be recognized for commitment to the nursing profession.
Selection for Palmetto Gold is based on promoting and advancing the nursing profession in a positive way; displaying exceptional caring and commitment to patients, families, student nurses and colleagues; demonstrating leadership; assisting others in growth and development; and promoting the profession of nursing through civic and community activities.
Palmetto Gold was formed in 2001 by a coalition of nurse leaders in South Carolina as a statewide recognition program to showcase the valuable contributions nurses make to patient care and to raise money for nursing scholarships. Palmetto Gold has recognized more than 2,000 nurses in the past 20 years and provides a $1,000 nursing scholarship to each registered nurse undergraduate program in South Carolina.
Nurse Mode began her nursing career working at Laurens County Hospital and then joined Laurens County School District 56 in February 2009. She served at Joanna Woodson Elementary and Clinton Middle School. In August 2020, she was named lead nurse for the district. Her responsibilities include training and overseeing all district nursing staff, monitoring COVID cases and mitigation strategies, and educating district staff on ways to provide universal care to students and staff.
District Superintendent David O’Shields said, “Nurse Mode is a steady source of knowledge and encouragement. She works tirelessly to provide quality care for the whole child.”
She will be honored at the Palmetto Gold Banquet in Columbia in September 2022.
