Support 160+ local, Black-benefiting nonprofits on Give 8/28

Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands’ leader in collaborative philanthropy, its African American Philanthropy Committee, and In Good Company partners are celebrating Give 8/28 by awarding $15,000 in prizes to eligible Black-led-and-benefiting nonprofits. Give 8/28 is a focused day of giving that builds on the momentum of Black Philanthropy Month. Donors can join the celebration using the Midlands Gives year-round platform to invest in more than 160 local nonprofits during August.
“Black-led-and-benefiting nonprofits, like Black communities, have historically been underinvested in and underestimated. Black Philanthropy Month and Give 8/28 encourage us to celebrate the Black community and the nonprofits that love and serve it,” says Vice President of Community Investment, Erin Johnson.
Sixth annual Give 8/28 inspires giving to Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits
The Young, Black, and Giving Back Institute in Washington, D.C., leads the national giving day that culminates Black Philanthropy Month. Give 8/28 encourages supporting Black-led and Black-benefiting organizations on August 28.
Black Philanthropy Month — Love in Action
Black Philanthropy Month is a global coordinated effort to celebrate African-descent giving and funding equity. This year’s theme, “Love in Action,” focuses attention on the root meaning of philanthropy as love for all humanity. Founded in 2011 by Dr. Jackie Copeland-Carson and Pan-African Women’s Philanthropy Network, Black Philanthropy Month encompasses self-organized events, community dialogue and charitable giving globally.
In Good Company partners support Black-led-and-benefiting nonprofits with $7,500 investment
Central Carolina Community Foundation and its In Good Company partners are focused on building a vibrant, livable, and equitable community for everyone. Black Philanthropy Month and Give 8/28 build awareness and increase financial support for Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofit organizations. “These organizations are vital and play a key role in creating the community we envision,” says JoAnn Turnquist, president and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation.
First Citizens Bank, an In Good Company Network partner, is sponsoring Give 8/28 with two prizes designed to inspire giving and assist the African American Philanthropy Committee’s grantmaking. “First Citizens Bank is proud to partner with Central Carolina Community Foundation and support Black Philanthropy Month and the Give 8/28 initiative,” says James Bennett, Mid-South area executive at First Citizens. “These important efforts enable businesses across the region to join together and help grow a stronger, more vibrant, equitable and prosperous community, for all.”
Optus Bank, an In Good Company Network partner, is sponsoring Give 8/28 with one prize that will motivate giving and support the African American Philanthropy Committee’s grantmaking. “Optus Bank takes immense pride in endorsing the ‘Give 8/28’ initiative, as it resonates profoundly with our core mission of ‘Transforming Opportunities into Wealth.’ The coveted Community Builder award serves as a catalyst, inspiring organizations to forge substantial transformations and amplify their ability to uplift the underserved while fostering shared responsibility. This is a call to action for initiatives that promote progress for everyone and influence change,” says an Optus Bank representative.
In Good Company Network offers companies strategic philanthropic services, brand visibility, a network of partners across the region, and opportunities to impact a diverse range of nonprofits in the Midlands. A portion of a company’s investment goes back into the community to nonprofit organizations through the Foundation’s signature strategic initiatives.
