Amernet String Quartet USC Residency

September 21, 2023

University of South Carolina School of Music announces the residency of Miami-based Amernet String Quartet September 29 through October 3.

Praised for their “intelligence” and “immensely satisfying” playing by the New York Times, the Amernet String Quartet has garnered recognition as one of today’s exceptional string quartets and are Ensemble-in-Residence at Florida International University in Miami. Their sound has been called “complex” but with an “old world flavor.” Strad Magazine described the Amernet as “…a group of exceptional ability.”

During their residency, Amernet Quartet will perform at several locations in the Midlands area. On September 29, USC’s mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway joins the ensemble for Southern Exposure New Music Series’ first concert of their season in the School of Music Recital Hall.

September 30 Calloway and Amernet Quartet present Shir Ami Song, a program of Jewish concert music, at Tree of Life Congregation’s People Community Concert.

The quartet will conclude their residency at the Columbia Museum of Art’s Baker & Baker Series for a concert inspired by the museum’s permanent collection. Along with tenor Dominic Armstrong and pianist Phillip Bush, the Amernet String Quartet and Calloway will perform an original program of music written about and surrounding World Wars I and II. This exclusive performance features selections from several composers including Charles Ives, Vaughan Williams, and Samuel Barber.
