USPS to Close on June 19 in Observance of Juneteenth

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, in observance of Freedom Day, also known as Juneteenth. According to the USPS, all postal service locations will be closed, and no mail will be delivered with the exception of holiday premium priority mail. All locations will reopen the following day during normal business hours.
Despite the closure, customers will still be able to order stamps, shipping supplies, and print shipping labels online.
In 2021, President Biden signed a law that made June 19, or Juneteenth, a federal holiday. This day commemorates the moment in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States learned they were free, more than two years after then-President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which liberated slaves in the Confederacy during the Civil War.
Generations of Black Americans have celebrated Juneteenth, marking the enforcement of the proclamation in Texas with the Civil War ending in a Union victory.
