Laurens County Mourns the Loss of Deputy Christopher Motes

The Laurens County community is grieving the loss of Deputy Christopher Motes, who passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Deputy Motes, a dedicated member of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, was known for his unwavering commitment to serving the community despite his health challenges.
In January, it was revealed that Deputy Motes was battling kidney cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain. The community rallied around him and his family, offering support and prayers, during this difficult time.
The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office shared the news of his passing on social media, stating: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of the passing of Deputy Christopher Motes after a courageous battle with cancer. Deputy Motes was a dedicated member of our Law Enforcement family, serving our community well and often expressing his desire to one day return to work even in the midst of his health issues.”
Sheriff Don Reynolds expressed his condolences and highlighted Deputy Motes’ bravery and dedication: “Deputy Motes remained strong and courageous throughout his battle with this terrible cancer. He kept a positive attitude and had such a willingness to fight, not to mention his desire to get back here and serve this county. We mourn his loss and we will continue to be there for his family.”
The Sheriff’s Office extended their deepest sympathies to Deputy Motes’ wife, Tabitha, who is also an employee at LCSO, as well as to his family, children, friends, and loved ones. The community’s support was deeply appreciated, with many individuals, agencies, and businesses across South Carolina and beyond donating to assist the Motes family in previous months. Their generosity made the family’s burden a little easier to bear, allowing them to focus on what was most important.
Deputy Motes’ legacy of kindness and service will forever be remembered. The community is encouraged to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
