Richland One announces 2023-2024 Coaches of the Year

Richland One has announced the Middle School and High School Coaches of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year. The announcement was made during the district’s Coaches Convocation on August 2 at Eau Claire High School.

Terrian Gillette, the head track and field coach, assistant football coach and assistant boys basketball coach at St. Andrews Middle School, was named Richland One’s 2023-2024 Middle School Coach of the Year.

“Coach Gillette coaches multiple sports and works with students every day, even outside of athletics. He’s very much involved with the students and is a really good role model and mentor for the students at St. Andrews,” said Richland One Athletics Director Bob Matz.

Jason Sandifer, the varsity wrestling coach at Dreher High School, was named the High School Coach of the Year.

“Coach Sandifer has been working very hard for many years in our district and has
developed a really good wrestling program. He goes above and beyond at the school working with students,” said Matz.

The other finalists for 2023-2024 Middle School Coach of the Year were:

  • Tyronnica Alford-Wilson – head girls basketball coach, Southeast Middle School
  • Derrick Crawford – head boys basketball coach, W.G. Sanders Middle School
  • Bruce Davis – head football and track and field coach, Hand Middle School
  • Kaalil English – head volleyball coach and assistant girls basketball coach, Alcorn Middle School
  • Tyrie Mayo – head football coach, Crayton Middle School
  • Darius Smith – head track and field coach, Hopkins Middle School
  • Marietta Wider – athletics coordinator, W.A. Perry Middle School

The other finalists for 2023-2024 High School Coach of the Year were:

  • Stephen “JoJo” English – head varsity boys basketball coach, Lower Richland High School
  • Josh Knight – head boys tennis coach, Columbia High School
  • Robert McCray – head varsity boys basketball coach, C.A. Johnson High School
  • Kiarra Pettway – head volleyball coach, W.J. Keenan High School
  • Eric Redden – head baseball coach, Eau Claire High School
  • Jacob Thompson – head girls basketball coach, A.C. Flora High School
