Dr. Andrew Steiner Joins Prisma Health in Laurens as New Orthopedic Surgeon, Bringing Passion for Medicine and Music

August 14, 2024

Prisma Health–Laurens County Hospital welcomes a new addition to its medical team, Dr. Andrew Steiner, who recently joined the hospital’s orthopedic practice. An experienced orthopedic surgeon, his interest in this area was sparked during an elective surgical specialty rotation in his third year of medical school. Since then, his passion for the field has only grown. Dr. Steiner’s natural ability for 3D spatial thinking has allowed him to excel in managing a wide range of orthopedic conditions.

“I’ve always enjoyed working in small communities, where you can build strong relationships with colleagues and truly make a difference in the lives of people who need your care,” said Dr. Steiner.  “My wife and I look forward to settling in and enjoying all the benefits that living in Laurens County provides.”

Justin Benfield, CEO of Prisma Health–Laurens County Hospital, expressed his enthusiasm for Dr. Steiner’s arrival, stating, “Dr. Steiner’s expertise in orthopedic surgery, combined with his commitment to patient care and community involvement, make him a perfect fit for our team. We are thrilled to have him on board and look forward to the positive impact he will bring to our patients and the broader community.” Prisma Health Orthopedics–Laurens now has five physicians, including Dr. James Dallis, who joined in June.

Dr. Steiner’s approach to patient care is centered on open communication and education. He takes time to discuss with his patients their medical history and symptoms and offers non-surgical treatment options when possible. When surgery is necessary, he provides a thorough explanation of the procedure, including the risks, benefits, and post-operative rehabilitation.

Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Steiner is an accomplished musician and drummer for the band Burning Bridges. The band, a trio of medical professionals and veterans, is known for their energetic performances and a diverse repertoire that spans classic rock, country, and hits from the ’60s to the 2000s.

“Music is not just a hobby; it’s a way of life,” Dr. Steiner shared. “Drumming is a form of catharsis that enhances my focus and thought patterns. Playing for others and seeing them enjoy the music is incredibly rewarding.”

Burning Bridges will take the stage at the Main Street Laurens Finally Friday event on September 27th,  promising an evening of nostalgic hits and lively entertainment. Attendees can expect a broad range of songs that will have them singing and dancing along.

When he’s not in the operating room or on stage, Dr. Steiner enjoys spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and their Labrador retriever, Cooley Rose. As his first dog, he wanted to ensure the puppy had the best home life and training. Dr. Steiner read The Art of Raising a Puppy, which recommends that puppies meet 100 people in 100 days. He and his wife took Cooley Rose everywhere—walking, hiking, dining out, and swimming. One of their favorite memories is spending time at Huntington Dog Beach in California. Now settled in South Carolina, Cooley Rose enjoys swimming in Lake Hartwell and hiking the trails at Saddlers Creek State Park. The Steiners continue to explore local parks and restaurants, adding to their list of favorite spots.

Dr. Steiner and his wife have quickly embraced the small-town charm of Laurens and Clinton. “Everyone we have met has been very welcoming,” he noted. “We are excited to become an active part of the community, and I am particularly interested in finding ways to support veterans.”

As Dr. Steiner embarks on this new chapter with Prisma Health Laurens, the hospital and community look forward to the contributions he will make both as a skilled orthopedic surgeon and a vibrant community member.
