Deadline Approaching for Voter Registration in South Carolina Ahead of Nov. 5th Election

In South Carolina, voters must register at least 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote. With the Nov. 5th election just around the corner, it’s crucial for residents to ensure they’re registered by the upcoming deadlines.

Voter registration deadlines are as follows:

  • In person: October 4
  • Online: October 6
  • Postmark (by mail): October 7

To qualify for voter registration in South Carolina, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Be at least 18 years old on or before the election.
  • Be a resident of South Carolina in the county and precinct where registration is taking place.
  • Not be under a court order declaring them mentally incompetent.
  • Not be confined in a public prison due to a criminal conviction.
  • Have never been convicted of a felony or election-related offense, or if previously convicted, must have completed their sentence, including probation or parole, or received a pardon.

Voters can find more information and check their registration status by visiting scVOTES.gov or contacting their local county voter registration office. In Laurens County, paper registration forms are available at the Laurens County Election Office, located at 105 Bolt Dr., Laurens, SC. Residents can also call the office at (864) 984-4431 for further assistance.

Lynne West, Director of Voter Registration and Elections for Laurens County, emphasizes the importance of registering early. “Your vote is your voice, and it’s crucial to make sure you’re registered well in advance. We encourage everyone to check their voter status and ensure all their information is up to date before the deadline,” she said.
