Laurens County Clerk of Court Introduces Free Recording Alert Service to Protect Residents

September 25, 2024

The Laurens County Clerk of Court has launched a free Recording Alert Service to help residents stay informed about any documents recorded in their name with the Register of Deeds office. After signing up for the service, participants will receive a confirmation email, followed by an alert any time a document is recorded under their name.

Laurens County Administrator Thomas Higgs emphasized the importance of the service, stating, “This new Recording Alert Service is a proactive step to protect our citizens from potential fraud. It gives residents peace of mind, knowing they will be notified immediately if something is recorded in their name. I applaud our Clerk of Court for her proactive commitment to our citizens’ privacy.”

Residents can register with multiple variations of their name, such as their full name, first and last name, or middle and last name, ensuring broader protection. While this service does not prevent documents from being recorded, it provides a timely notification. If a document is recorded unexpectedly, residents can contact the Register of Deeds office for assistance.

For questions or support, residents can contact the Register of Deeds office at 864-984-3538, option 3. To sign up, click HERE to go to the Clerk of Court page on the County website and then at the bottom of the page click on Fraud Alert Webpage under additional services.
