A biblical principle for all business people

In the Sermon on the Mount, we are told, “If any man requires you to go with him one mile, go with him twain.”

Going the extra mile merely means giving more and better service than you are paid for – and doing it positively.

All the successful people we know practice this. Over the years, they have gone the extra mile to earn the trust and respect of their friends, family and customers.

Napoleon Hill often told the story about a salesman who always went the extra mile.

Hill, as you undoubtedly know, wrote several of the most memorable books on success. They are must reading for anyone who wants to succeed in life.

The young salesman invited an elderly lady into his store to escape the rain. As other salesmen saw she was unlikely to buy anything, they ignored her. But the young salesman offered her a chair to rest her tired feet, simply out of kindness.

He was not looking to make any sales or commissions. He simply wanted to help.

His kindness did not go unrewarded.

A few days later, the woman called to ask the salesman to help her with a large order.

She was the mother of Andrew Carnegie, the billionaire chairman of US Steel.
