Ambrosia offers authentic Greek cuisine

February 25, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – When Carol Rogers Papaletsos returned to her hometown of Columbia, S.C., after 20 years in Greece and nearly three years studying at Columbia University in New York, she heeded the call of her lifelong passion – cooking – opening Ambrosia in 2014.

“My real passion and strength lies in promoting Greece and the Greek diet,” says Papaletsos. “I really learned how to eat in Greece and to love cooking. Cooking is fun, but cooking in Greece is way more fun.”

A catering service specializing in authentic Greek cuisine and offering everything from home delivery, office lunches and dinners to small and medium-sized catered events, cooking demonstrations and lessons; Ambrosia is a unique culinary experience embracing the benefits of the Greek (Mediterranean) diet to include the foods and wines from the island of Ikaria where it is said, “the people forget to die.”

P-2aIndeed, according to a New York Times Magazine piece, “Ikarians’ diet, like that of others around the Mediterranean, [is] rich in olive oil and vegetables, low in dairy (except goat’s milk) and meat products… It [emphasizes] homegrown potatoes, beans (garbanzo, black-eyed peas and lentils), wild greens and locally produced goat milk and honey.”

That same diet, deliciously prepared and delightfully served, is – among other Greek foods – what Papaletsos is bringing to the heart of Palmetto State.

But it’s not simply catering and classes that Ambrosia offers. Papaletsos has scheduled culinary tours to Greece with herself as hostess and guide. The first tour is slated for April 7-17 to the Peloponnese, then Skiathos/Mt. Pelion/ Delphi/ Athens (June 6-18), Ikaria/Samos/Ephesus (June 20- July 2), and lastly Peloponnese II (July 4-16).
