Ann Hall Receives Tri-County’s Presidential Medallion for Staff Excellence

PENDLETON, SC – Ann Hall, accounting manager for the Business Affairs Division at Tri-County Technical College, was honored Thursday (August 14) with the highest award given for staff excellence at the College.

President Ronnie L. Booth presented Mrs. Hall with the Presidential Medallion for Staff Excellence at the College’s fall convocation. The medallion, along with a cash award made possible by the Tri-County Technical College Foundation, goes to a person who best exemplifies the College philosophy and has contributed the most during the academic year to the development of the college and its students. Hall joined the College in 2008.

“I very much appreciate the recognition since there are obviously so many deserving folks on staff here at the College,” said Hall. “I’ve been fortunate to work with a great team here and can’t thank them enough for their leadership and support.”

“Ann exemplifies going above and beyond and demonstrates the Tri-County Technical College service standards of being invested, competent, approachable, responsive and engaged and doing whatever it takes to get the job done accurately and timely each and every day,” Cara Hamilton, director of fiscal affairs, said in her nomination letter.

“Not only does Ann perform her job consistently, accurately and timely every day, she also does it quietly without a lot of fanfare or commotion. She identifies what needs to be done, plans ahead, organizes her work and does whatever it takes to meet deadlines,” wrote Hamilton.

Hamilton complimented her interpersonal skills and ability to bring out the best in her colleagues. “Ann is passionate about doing things right, engages with each person she interacts with and handles each encounter with equal importance and treats those around her with respect. She leaves a very favorable impression on every person she deals with both internally and externally,” said Hamilton.

“Ann drives organizational success through people by taking personal responsibility for giving her best each and every day and assisting those around her to do the same. She is a role model for integrity, respect and commitment to excellence.”

Hall takes her role as a manager, leader and coach of people seriously, said Hamilton. “Through daily supervision and the annual review process she ensures that all her direct reports are provided continuous constructive performance feedback. She also routinely recognizes her staff’s accomplishes and thanks them for their efforts.”

Prior to Hamilton being hired in 2013, Hall took on the extra responsibilities of serving as interim director of fiscal affairs. While performing these additional responsibilities, Hall improved processes and increased operational efficiencies by implementing the Banner GASB Statement Module and invested time in developing Access queries to help prepare and validate the financial data used in the Monthly Budget Variance report and other ad-hoc reports.

Hall’s job includes maintaining accounting financial records of all restricted funds specifically grants. “She takes the lead in working with all grants to ensure they are handled according to the grant guidelines and in a way that will most benefit the college,” said Hamilton. “As a result of her knowledge, diligence and research regarding grant compliance the College receives clean audits from the DOE and our annual external audits.”
During the current year Hall investigated the viability, tested, rolled out, trained staff and executed a new budgeting tool called Budget Development Module which was fully operational for the FY15 budget cycle. “This implementation was not small task as it went across the entire College and resulted in an extremely efficient budget process that we will replicated and improved each year going forward,” said Hamilton.

Hall came to Tri-County from the Medical University of South Carolina where she was systems and procedures manager in the grants office for six years. Her other work experience includes serving as assistant director of the grants office at North Carolina State University from 1991 – 94 and a financial analyst at Burroughs Welcome Company from 1985 – 90. From 1994 – 98, she and her husband owned an RV park and campground in Virginia.

She holds a B. S. in financial management from Clemson University and an MBA from the University of Georgia. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst. She and her husband, Bill, live in Seneca.
