July 5, 2011COLUMBIA, SC – June 30, 2011 – The Board of Commissioners for the SouthCarolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority (SC StateHousing) approved more than $1 million in Housing Trust Funds at arecent board meeting. The funds will be used to improve housingconditions in numerous counties across South Carolina.
Housing Trust Funds were awarded to 25 organizations throughout thestate to fund Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation and Rental activities.
Owner-Occupied Block Grants
Allen Temple Community Economic Development Corporation – $44,500 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Greenville County.
Beaufort-Jasper Economic Opportunity Commission – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, or Colleton Counties.
Blackville Community Development Corporation – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Barnwell, Orangeburg, Bamberg, Hampton, or Jasper Counties.
Camden First Community Development Corporation – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Kershaw, Lee, or Chesterfield Counties.
Carolina Communities Foundation, Inc. – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Barnwell, Calhoun, Allendale, or Bamberg Counties.
Clarendon County Community Development Corporation – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Clarendon County.
Community Assistance Provider – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Richland, Calhoun, Lexington, or Newberry Counties.
Fresh Start Community Development Corporation – $66,585 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Anderson County.
Habitat for Humanity of Cherokee County – $27,600 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Cherokee County.
Home Rehabilitation of Cherokee County – $44,500 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Cherokee County.
Homes of Hope, Inc. – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, or Laurens Counties.
Kingdom Vision Christian Center – $44,500 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Charleston, Berkley, Dorchester, or Orangeburg Counties.
Nehemiah Restoration Center, Inc. – $44,500 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Aiken County.
New Covenant Community Center, Inc. – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Aiken, Edgefield, Barnwell, or Saluda Counties.
Pee Dee Community Action Partnership – $44,500 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Florence, Marion, or Dillon Counties.
Santee Lynches Affordable Housing and Community Development Corporation – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Sumter, Lee, Clarendon, or Darlington Counties.
Soteria Community Development Corporation – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Greenville County.
Telamon Corporation – $44,500 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Williamsburg and Florence Counties.
United Way of Kershaw County – $44,500 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Kershaw County.
VEER Community Development Corporation – $66,750 to rehabilitate three houses for families in Richland, Lexington, Sumter, or Fairfield Counties.
Williamsburg Enterprise Community Commission, Inc. – $44,500 to rehabilitate two houses for families in Berkley, Clarendon, Williamsburg, or Florence Counties.
Rental Block Grants
Allen Temple Community Economic Development Corporation – $21,000 for the construction of four two-bedroom units for small families or elderly citizens in Pickens County.
Genesis Homes – $25,000 for the construction of four single family rental units within two infill lots in Greenville County.
Homes of Hope, Inc. – $200,000 to construct a ten unitduplex style development with three-bedroom units targeting largefamilies in Greenville County.
Homes of Hope, Inc. – $38,000 to construct a six unitduplex-style development with two-bedroom units targeting small familiesand seniors in Greenville County.
About the South Carolina Housing Trust Fund
The South Carolina Housing Trust Fund, created in 1992 by the GeneralAssembly, is funded with dollars collected from a dedicated portion ofthe deed stamp tax and provides funding for affordable housing andhomeownership opportunities for low income South Carolinians. Proceedsawarded by the Housing Trust Fund can only be used to serve householdsthat are at or below 80 percent of the county median income. All ofthis is accomplished by building partnerships among government agencies,qualified nonprofit sponsors, for-profit sponsors, and those in need ofaffordable housing.
