MONCKS CORNER, SC – Berkeley County School District (BCSD) Report Card shows that BCSD is performing at or above state averages, according to results released yesterday by the South Carolina Department of Education. The report cards provide a progress report on how schools and districts are performing across South Carolina. The report highlights graduation rates, readiness for college and careers, and curriculum opportunities available to BCSD students.

“We are excited to see how well our district is performing, and we commend our students and faculty for all of their hard work,” said Dr. Kevin O’Gorman, BCSD Chief Academic Officer. “We are looking forward to seeing the new assessments that will provide long term data to assist us in building programs that will prepare our students for college and career experiences.”

The District graduation rate of 83.8 percent for 2014-2015 surpasses the state average by more than 3%. This increase adds to an almost 10 percent increase in graduation rates in Berkeley County schools over the past four years. Additionally, 89.4 percent of BCSD 11th graders received a WorkKeys certificate. The WorkKeys assessment results provided District officials with a first glance of how well prepared BCSD students are to enter the workforce.

Berkeley County Superintendent Brenda Blackburn commented, “The State Department of Education has validated the excellence that BCSD schools demonstrate every day. I am pleased to see these results, and we will continue to provide the support and opportunities our students need to be successful.”
