October 15, 2010

SPARTANBURG, SC – October 15, 2010 – Dr. Judy Beck, director of the teacher education programs for the University of South Carolina Upstate Greenville Campus, was named president of the South Carolina Association of Teachers and Educators (SCATE) at its annual workshop, which was held at the University of South Carolina Hilton Head Gateway campus October 1-3.

SCATE is an organization of teacher educators from across the state of South Carolina, an avenue for us to share ideas, and best practices, and how we are trying to prepare the next generation of educators, said Beck, who also served as program planner for the conference.

SCATE serves in a leadership capacity for issues related to pre-service, graduate, and in-service teacher education. It provides opportunities for professional development through its publications, state conferences, workshops and networking with other educators. The Association is the only educational organization for individual members in South Carolina committed solely to the improvement of teacher education. SCATE is affiliated with the National Association of Teacher Educators.
