Benedict College Social Work Professor Travels to Cuba for Social Workers Research Program
June 10, 2014COLUMBIA, SC — Mrs. Brenda Armstrong Clark, Benedict College Social Work Professor, will travel with a group of fourteen social work educators to Cuba June 14-22, 2014. Participants are members of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), who are full-time faculty members and/or administrators at their universities.
The program provides a comprehensive view of the development and present state of Cuban social work education and practice. Participants will learn about social work on the island, meet with Odalys Gonzales Juban, President of the Cuban Society of Social Workers in Health Care, to establish contacts for possible future collaboration with the Cuban social work community. In a meeting and discussion with social work faculty at the University of Havana, participants will explore possible educational and research collaborations between CSWE and academic social workers in Cuba.
Dr. David Strug, Professor Emeritus of the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, Yeshiva University, New York, who has traveled extensively to Cuba and has written about social work on the island, will lead the group. CSWE will be the program consultant
