Berkeley County Schools Occupational Therapist Wins Big

MONCKS CORNER, SC  – Jean Solomon, Occupational Therapist with Berkeley County School District’s Programs for Students with Disabilities, was awarded the American Occupational Therapy Association’s (AOTA) Roster of Fellows Award.

A national honor given to AOTA members, the award recognizes those who, with their knowledge and expertise, have made a significant contribution to the continuing education and professional development of members of the association and those in the field.

Currently serving ten schools in the Berkeley County School District, Solomon sees 10 to 14 students daily. Those schools include Berkeley Elementary, Berkeley Middle, St. Stephen Elementary, St. Stephen Middle, J.K. Gourdin, H.E. Bonner Elementary, Macedonia Middle, Timberland High, Cross Elementary and Cross High.

Before returning to clinical practice with Berkeley County Schools four years ago, Solomon taught occupational therapy courses at Trident Technical College for more than 18 years. Collaborating with colleague Jane Clifford O’Brien, Ph.D. for more than 25 years, Solomon has co-written two textbooks for occupational therapy students, one of which is in its fourth edition.

Nominated by O’Brien for the AOTA Roster of Fellows Award, Solomon said, “Being awarded this honor tells me that my occupational therapy colleagues acknowledge the contributions I have made to my profession over the years.”

Solomon plans to attend the award ceremony on April 18, 2015 from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Its purpose is to enhance the quality of occupational therapy services with programs that focus on improving access to health care services and promoting professional development of its members.
