Blue Ridge Middle gives back

December 22, 2014

GREER, SC – Blue Ridge Middle School’s fall food drive brought in a trunk load of nonperishable food and $3,373.78 in cash for Greer Community Ministries (GCM). The food and money will help the ministry continue to serve people in the Greater Greer community through its Food Pantry.

“We serve on average about 400 people per month in our Food Pantry,” said Cindy Simpler, GCM Executive Director. “This food and money will go a long way in helping us feed our hungry neighbors and it shows that even though you are young, you can make an impact in your community.”

Each food order given to families is worth approximately $40 for a family of four, $80 for a family of five to eight people, and $120 for a family of nine or more people.  Food orders are given at no cost to families. A food order should provide meals for three to five days. Individuals may receive a food order once every six months. Included in each order are proteins, grains, vegetables, fruits, and breakfast foods.

“We can only give out what we receive in donations that’s why we are so grateful for students who give back to their community like those at Blue Ridge Middle,” Simpler said.
