Blythewood Middle School again named “A School to Watch”

February 27, 2017

Blythewood Middle School has been re-designated as a 2017 School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform. The program honors the work of middle schools implementing best practices in academic excellence, social equity, and developmental responsiveness, with organizational supports that put them on the trajectory toward excellence. Re-designated Schools to Watch are schools that were recognized three years ago and have met the requirements for continued recognition.

The school will host a celebration on Wednesday, March 1 at 8:30 a.m., in the gymnasium. Blythewood Middle school is located at 2351 Longtown Rd E, Blythewood, SC 29016. The media is invited to attend.

Blythewood Middle will receive their award at the general session at the South Carolina Association for Middle Level Education conference on Saturday, March 4, 2017. In addition, the school will send a team to Washington, D.C. in June where they will meet with their area legislative representatives and receive their national award at the National Forum’s Schools to Watch conference.

“Receiving the National Schools to Watch re-designation is a tremendous honor,” said Principal Karis Mazyck. “The National Schools to Watch re-designation demonstrates Blythewood Middle School’s continued commitment to implementing innovative programs and strategies designed to reach every student.”

Blythewood Middle is one of only two schools in South Carolina re-designated for the third consecutive year as a national School to Watch.
