Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center celebrates 10th anniversary

October 22, 2024

This month, Bon Secours is celebrating a decade of providing exceptional cancer care to Upstate patients with the 10th anniversary of its St. Francis Cancer Center.

Since opening its doors on October 20, 2014, the facility has earned a reputation for delivering comprehensive, patient-centered treatments while embracing the latest advancements in cancer care. From prevention and diagnosis to cutting-edge treatment options and survivorship care, the center’s multidisciplinary approach has been instrumental in creating personalized treatment plans for each patient.

“This anniversary is a testament to the dedication of our entire team and the incredible support we have received from the community. Our goal has always been to provide the highest quality of care, while supporting our patients and their families throughout their cancer journey,” said Andrew Honeychuck, Administrative Director for the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center. “We are proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past decade, and we remain committed to advancing cancer care for years to come.”

With multiple accreditations, the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center offers a wide range of treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies. The center is equipped with advanced technology, such as the Edge system, which delivers precise radiation therapy with minimal impact on surrounding healthy tissues.

“We’ve made tremendous strides in cancer care, from expanding access to early detection through our mobile mammography units to participating in groundbreaking clinical trials,” says Honeychuck. “Our involvement in clinical research has allowed us to offer patients access to the latest treatment options. These innovations are at the core of what we do – giving our patients the best possible chance at a successful outcome.”

Understanding that cancer is a disease that strikes people of all ages, in every stage of life, the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center also includes a unique program specifically for the Adolescent & Young Adult (AYA) population. Including dedicated waiting and treatment areas as well as outings that encourage community and social engagement among patients, the program underscores the health system’s dedication to specialized care for patients who can be overlooked in other programs that are designed for pediatric or older adult cancer patients.

“Our goal goes beyond treatment of the disease. Our center emphasizes holistic care to address all your needs that may come from receiving a cancer diagnosis – from nutritional counseling to psychological support and pastoral care. We even offer support programs and educational workshops for patients’ family members, so they have assistance as they try to help their loved ones during a challenging time,” explained Honeychuck.

This commitment to comprehensive care has earned the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center high patient satisfaction scores, with many patients highlighting the compassionate and personalized approach they have experienced. With approximately $2 million in annual research funding and around 90 active clinical trials, the center is poised to continue its mission of delivering innovative treatments and improving patient outcomes well into the future.

“Our work is far from over. We remain committed to advancing cancer care for years to come through faith, hope, and expertise. We will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, all while keeping the needs of our patients at the forefront of everything we do,” promised Honeychuck.

Next on the horizon for the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center is a new surgical oncology procedure suite. It will provide a dedicated area for surgical oncologists to perform consultations, office visits, and minor in-office procedures for patients in one, convenient location. It’s expected to open in 2025.
