Program for Teens Seeks Accomplished Professionals to Share Their Career Triumphs and Challenges

27% of Greenville County high-school graduates were considered NOT ready for college or careers in 2018. Benjamin Franklin Experience (BFE) is a summer program for teens, ages 14-18, that directly addresses this problem by preparing students for the 21st Century workforce and inspiring them toward aspirational careers.

As students discover their own interests and talents, they learn skills employers need most—leadership, business etiquette, teamwork, writing excellence, creative problem solving, and verbal communication.

A large component of the program’s success is a result of students’ interactions with high-performing mentors. During the program, students hear how accomplished professionals attained their careers and found personal fulfillment.

“We rely on prestigious mentors who are generous and open in sharing their stories. Overcoming poverty, failure, relationship issues, health issues, discrimination, rejection, working three jobs, financing school, being flat broke, taking risks, getting fired, learning disabilities—whatever the obstacle—students hear what accomplished members of the business community did to overcome hurdles to arrive where they are today. It’s powerful,” explains Founder and Executive Director, Jonathan Shanin.

Benjamin Franklin Experience is calling for Visiting-Mentors who are eager to help students find the path to their dream lives and careers to participate in select experiences alongside students.

Courses run from June through August from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Interested Mentors may attend morning, lunch, or afternoon sessions only—or the entire day (preferred).

Interested parties may complete BFE’s Visiting-Mentor Information Form at the following address: https://www.franklinexperience.org/visiting-mentors-form/ or call (864) 246-8123 for additional information.

Benjamin Franklin Experience (BFE) is a summer program through which students, ages 14 – 18, have day-in-the-life experiences in inspirational careers led by experts. Fields include STEM, arts, trades, medicine, and more. One day, students work with environmental scientists in a mountain stream, the next, they learn emergency medicine at a state-of-the-art simulation center.

As students discover their own interests and talents, they learn the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century—leadership, business etiquette, teamwork, writing excellence, creative problem solving, and verbal communication. Students’ future college and employment applications are bolstered with writing assignments, photography, and music from the program. Most importantly, students change their perceptions of themselves and their possible futures, which results in goal-driven behavior necessary to achieve success.

Benjamin Franklin Experience is a program of AidJoy, a 501(c)3 corporation.
