Callison Tighe’s Detwiler earns certifiation as Circuit Court mediator

October 3, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Rick Detwiler, a member at Callison Tighe, now is a certified South Carolina Circuit Court mediator.

A mediator is a neutral third party who helps litigants in court cases reach settlements before the start of a trial. If the two sides can reach an agreement, it usually saves both parties time, money and stress.

Many South Carolina counties, including Richlands, require mediation in Circuit and Family Court cases.

Attorneys must complete mediation training as well as meet other requirements before being certified. Detwiler joins two other Callison Tighe attorneys, Reece Williams and Mike Tighe, in earning certification. Tighe also is a certified state arbitrator.

Malissa Burnette, the fourth lawyer on the firm’s Alternate Dispute Resolution team, is a certified federal mediator.

In addition to mediation, Detwiler’s trial practice includes personal injury, commercial disputes, probate and family litigation. He also represents employer businesses, as well as injured workers in workers’ compensation cases.
