Camp Rise Above receives grant to provide adaptive overnight camp programs for children with disabilities and serious illnesses
June 13, 2024Camp Rise Above (CRA) received a $50,000 grant from the Honda USA Foundation to provide adaptive and inclusive overnight camp programs for children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and life challenges.
“This generous grant will enable Camp Rise Above to serve more than 90 children at overnight camp this summer, providing a space of belonging and safety many will be experiencing for the first time. Support like this allows us to keep our high-quality programs free of charge to families and accessible to all,” said Erin Ulmer, Executive Director of Camp Rise Above.
From June 24-28, CRA will host more than 90 campers with special needs for five days and four nights of camp magic. Campers will enjoy traditional activities such as horseback riding, archery, swimming, and boating, all adapted to meet the individual needs of each child. Campers have varying diagnoses including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, epilepsy, sickle cell, and many more. This annual week of camp is made possible with community support and more than 100 volunteers.
“The Honda USA Foundation is pleased to partner with Camp Rise Above,” said Bobbie Trittschuh, Executive Director. “One week at camp is a gift that keeps on giving for youth living with disabilities and critical illnesses. At camp they make connections that foster a sense of belonging and ignites independence, leadership, and confidence that continues well into adulthood.”
