CHA awarded CoC funding for Homeless Programs
April 11, 2018The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced that Columbia Housing Authority (CHA) has successfully renewed three Continuum of Care (CoC) grants and has secured an additional new grant totaling $673,843.
“We are very enthusiastic about the increased amount of aid that will allow us to better serve the homeless population of Richland County,” said Executive Director of the CHA, Gilbert Walker. “This funding will allow us to maintain existing units and add five new units to the CHA’s Housing First Homeless Programs.”
The three renewal grants are: the Permanent Supportive Housing Chronic for $209,881, the Permanent Supportive Housing Disabled for $278,288, and the Housing First Expansion for $131,574. The new grant, Housing First Expansion Plus, will provide an additional $54,100 which will allow the CHA to provide five additional units; two 1-bedroom and three 2-bedroom units. These grants fall under the Continuum of Care Program which works to end homelessness through direct local planning efforts, direct housing and service programs geared towards individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
