Chapin High School student named SC student correspondent for Shrine Bowl
October 6, 2014CHAPIN – A Chapin High School student has been selected as one of two student correspondents for the 78th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, an annual game featuring many of the top high school players from North and South Carolina.
Jake Kea will represent the South Carolina team for this year’s game. A senior at Chapin High, Kea is a member of the varsity baseball team, a Senior Beta Club member and Sports Information Director for the Chapin Student Press Network. He is also cofounder of the Chapin Eagle Club Sports Network which streams Chapin sports on www.cspneagles.com, and he has provided commentary during a basketball game with a local sports personality on The Game 560AM. Chapin High School Principal Dr. Akil Ross wrote Kea’s nomination letter.
“Jake voluntarily served as the lead broadcaster for CSPN Eagles Sports and spent countless hours preparing for and calling football and basketball games,” Ross said. “It’s a huge honor to be named one of only two student correspondents for this event. We are so proud of Jake, and I know he will do an excellent job representing himself and the Chapin community as a student correspondent for the Shrine Bowl.”
The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas was first played on December 4, 1937 in Charlotte, N.C., making it the oldest high school football all-star game in the nation, the group said. Traditionally held on the third weekend in December, the annual game is played to benefit the Greenville, SC Unit Shriners Hospital for Children© and other Shriners Hospitals for Children© nationwide.
