Ms. Broome joins a select group of airport executives with a proven commitment to providing a forum where the aviation community can collaborate on strategic initiatives with the goal of optimizing Human Capital.  Ultimately, the Committee strives to be the aviation community’s #1 HR resource.

“It’s truly an honor to be invited to be a part of this committee,” says Broome.  “I started at the airport as the voice over the intercom telling people to move their cars and now I’m representing Columbia Metropolitan Airport on an industry level. I think it’s a testament of, not just my hard work, but also the leadership of our Director, Dan Mann, who has put forth a genuine effort into making our airport a national example of success.”

Ms. Broome began her career at the Airport in 1998 as part of the Marketing Department and worked in purchasing and administration prior to Human Resources. In 2010 she became the airport’s Director of Human Resources, making her the first minority to ever hold a Director’s position at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.  In her current role she is responsible for all of the airport’s Human Resource activities and serves as the Airport’s Diversity Official.  As the Airport’s designated Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Liaison Officer she has the responsibility of overseeing airport compliance in giving opportunities to ACDBE/ DBE/minority, women-owned and small/local businesses.  In early 2012 she added the role of Title VI Coordinator for the nearly 3000 acres of airport property.

Ms. Broome has earned the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification and the SHRM-CP certification.  She is a graduate of the Chamber’s Human Resources Institute, the Columbia College Women in Leadership training program and has completed the LEAD, (Leadership, Excellence, and Dynamics) program.  Ms. Broome is an active member of numerous organizations including the SC Diversity Council, Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC); National and Local Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM); Cayce/West Columbia Rotary (where she is the Immediate Past President), SC Minority Contractors Association (SCMCA); the Midlands Education Business Alliance (MEBA); Women in Philanthropy (WIP) and is a graduate of the 2012 Leadership Columbia Class and Vice-Chair of the Carolinas Minorities Suppliers Development (CMSDC) Regional Advisory Council.  She is a member of the Inter-modal Advisory Committee for the National Summer Transportation Institute program (which is designed to get students interested in an aviation/transportation career) and a member of Toastmasters International.

Ms. Broome’s involvement in the community also extends to working with women groups and students. She works with students and adults on interviewing skills, mentors college students and makes career presentations. Chappelle has volunteered at a local shelter for homeless women and their children; worked with programs which assisted women reentering the work force from difficult situations with job skills and the employment process and also with the “Jobs for Life” Program which teach job skills.  She has volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem; as a tutor with the Midlands Reading Consortium; is a supporter of the local Sexual Trauma Services, and a member of Women in Philanthropy (WIP).  She has worked on the Summer Transportation Institute Planning committee and the SCHIV Worlds Aids Day Planning Committee.

Ms. Broome always lists her most proud accomplishments as mother to daughter, Quiante who works in Mortgage Insurance and also operates her own insurance company in Charlotte, NC and son, Joshua, a Software Developer with VC3 computers in Columbia.

Ms. Broome will serve a four-year term for 2016 through 2020 and play a significant role in assisting the ACI-NA Human Resources committee in addressing a myriad of issues affecting airports and providing effective policy recommendations, meetings and products.
