Charleston International welcomes news of Frontier Airlines service in spring 2018

Charleston International Airport and the Charleston County Aviation Authority are pleased with the announcement that Frontier Airlines intends to launch nonstop service between the Lowcountry and Denver beginning in spring 2018.
“We think Frontier Airlines is a good fit for Charleston and for our customers. Denver is a great destination and we look forward to a successful partnership and, hopefully, future expansion of air service in Frontier’s network,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., the Aviation Authority’s executive director and CEO.
Frontier Airlines on Tuesday announced a significant network expansion, adding 21 new cities that will increase by 30 percent the number of destinations served by the low-fare carrier and will double the number of total routes. By next spring, Frontier will offer low fares to 90 percent of the U.S. population, the airline said.
“Frontier Airlines’ intention to serve Charleston is obviously welcome and we strongly believe that the carrier will see opportunities to expand here quickly,” said Helen Turner Hill, chief executive officer of Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “There are several cities in their growing network that would be a welcome addition to the air service matrix of Charleston, already one of the fastest growing air travel markets in America during this decade.”
Last year Charleston International Airport served 3.7 million passengers. In the first six months of 2017, nearly 2 million people have flown in and out of the airport.
Headquartered in Denver, Colo., Frontier flies to more than 80 destinations in the U.S., Canada, Dominican Republic and Mexico. Frontier intends to grow that to more than 1,000 by summer 2018.
Frontier will be Charleston International’s seventh airline and the airport’s third low-cost carrier. Information about Frontier’s flight schedule and when seats go on sale will be announced at a later date.
