Charleston Southern University partners with Papua New Guinea, newest Sister City
July 8, 2024Charleston Southern University is honored to begin a partnership with the Papua New Guinea University of Technology in Lae, Papua New Guinea, as part of the Charleston Sister Cities International initiative to add Lae as Charleston’s newest Sister City. CSU was delighted to host the delegation from Papua New Guinea this morning. The PNG University of Technology’s new aeronautics program is an exciting area of possible collaboration as CSU has the only collegiate aeronautics program in the state of South Carolina.
Stephanie LeVan, executive director of the Center for Global Engagement at CSU, said, “We hope this agreement will inspire student exchange, collaboration on research projects, and open international dialogue to build the global acumen of our students.”
The PNG University of Technology’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ora Renagi, said, “We have a new office of international partnerships specifically to foster the many relationships we have around the world, and we welcome this new partnership. PNGUoT’s objective is to ensure that all of our students and faculty and staff are also looking outwards, life is not only Papua New Guinea, we have to make sure that young people are thinking on a global level.”
The delegation confirmed the intent of Papua New Guinea to build a lasting relationship with the Charleston region and Charleston Southern University. CSU is proud to embark on this exciting new partnership.
