Colliers International brokers lease for new 20,000 SF YMCA Family Center

Columbia’s downtown YMCA to move to the corner of Bull and Hampton.
Colliers International completed a 15-year for a new YMCA Family Center in downtown Columbia. The new location is situated at the corner of Hampton and Bull Streets, replacing a currently vacant building. Colliers International brokers represented both landlord and tenant in the transaction; Tripp Bradley, CCIM, represented the landlord, Heritage Land and Development, and Philip Vann represented the tenant, YMCA of Columbia.
The new location is 2 blocks from the current Sumter Street building and will offer convenient parking to the YMCA’s members for the first time ever. Development plans for the location include razing the current building and constructing a new two-story, 20,000 square foot building which will be completed in the summer of 2016.
The downtown YMCA was the first location to open in Columbia. Since then, the YMCA has expanded to four more locations throughout the Midlands. This is the first relocation for the downtown YMCA since its opening.
Heritage Land and Development was formed by William M. Yandell III and John A. Glassell to develop real estate projects with an emphasis on historically significant structures that could be renovated. In 2014, Heritage purchased the 110,000 square foot Federal Land Bank Building plus 3.6 acres for future development in downtown Columbia, and have commenced construction on the Federal Land Bank Apartments. The new YMCA building will be a standalone building on one of the outparcels adjoining the apartments.
