Michael Burchstead serves on Council of Government Law Section

Government, Ethics and Compliance attorney Michael R. Burchstead began service as a council member for the South Carolina Bar Government Law Section on July 1st. His term expires in 2022.

Burchstead is one of six council members who work to keep section members informed, support continuing education and professional development as well as contribute to the SC Bar Foundation’s Children’s Fund and Disabled Lawyers Fund.

An excerpt from the Government Law Section bylaws:

“The purpose of this Section shall be to promote, by appropriate means, the objects of the South Carolina Bar and to improve the art and techniques of government law in the State of South Carolina; to provide information and further the education of members; to further the improvement and the development of legislation pertaining to state and local governments; and to simplify and improve the administrative and judicial procedures in the field of government law.”

Burchstead leads the Collins & Lacy Government, Ethics, and Compliance Practice in Columbia. Elected leaders, candidates, professionals, gov’t entities and agencies call on him regarding issues pending before various courts and regulatory agencies as well as for sensitive issues of a political nature.

Burchstead is a former General Counsel for the state ethics commission.
