Columbia Businesswoman honored with 2016 Enterprising Women of the Year Award

February 24, 2016

Enterprising Women magazine has honored Columbia businesswoman, Lasenta Lewis-Ellis, with the 2016 Enterprising Women of the Year Award. The award, in its 14th year, is widely considered one of the most prestigious recognition programs for female business owners.

Lewis-Ellis, President and CEO of LLE Construction Group, LLC, received the award in the “over $1 million and up to $2 million in annual revenues” category. To win, nominees must demonstrate that they have fast-growth businesses, mentor or actively support other women and girls involved in entrepreneurship, and stand out as leaders in their communities. Many of the honorees also serve as leaders of key organizations that support the growth of women entrepreneurship.

Monica Smiley, Publisher/CEO of Enterprising Women, says, “The recipients of the 2016 Enterprising Women of the Year Award represent an amazing group of women entrepreneurs from across the United States and as far away as China, Egypt, South Africa, Uganda, the United Kingdom and Portugal. We could not be more proud to recognize their accomplishments as CEOs of fast-growth companies, community leaders, and role models and mentors to other women and girls.”

Ever the entrepreneur, Lewis-Ellis recently launched Need-A-Lift Transportation Services, LLC, which provides safe, reliable transportation for children to and from their many extra-curricular activities and appointments. In addition to her professional ventures, Lewis-Ellis is fiercely dedicated to community service and mentorship. In June 2015, she’s partnered with three local, well-known business owners to host Beyond the Lemonade Stand Entrepreneur Camp for Girls. The camp was an initiative to bring awareness and ignite a desire for entrepreneurship to young girls ages 9 to 17.

Lewis Ellis says, “It is an honor to be recognized alongside female entrepreneurs from around the world who are having a positive economic and societal impact on their local and national communities. I hope this sparks an entrepreneurial spirit in young girls everywhere, and especially those right here in my back yard. ”

Camille Shaw, Director of MBDA Business Center – Columbia, SC, says, “I couldn’t be more proud of our client, Lasenta Lewis-Ellis, for her many accomplishments. Through her success and mentorship, she is not only having a positive impact on the local community, she is also forging a path for other minority entrepreneurs, especially young girls. That is characteristic of a true leader.”

Lewis-Ellis’ award will be presented at the awards gala on March 1, 2016 during the 14th Annual Enterprising Women of the Year Awards Celebration & Conference at The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove in Miami, Florida.
