Columbia Development moves forward with plans for New Bern Marketplace

October 20, 2017

Columbia Development announced today its plans to move forward with New Bern Marketplace, a 326,850-square-foot grocery-anchored power center located on Highway 17 (Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard) at Glenburnie Road in New Bern, North Carolina.

The shopping center, which is set to be one of the largest retail developments in New Bern’s history, will be anchored by the country’s first 100,000-square-foot Harris Teeter, which will include a fuel station and drive-through pharmacy. The development will bring several national retailers to New Bern that have been missing from the market, including sporting goods retailer Academy Sports and Outdoors and arts and crafts retailer Hobby Lobby. Other tenants include West Marine, Ross Dress for Less, Ulta Beauty, Pet Supermarket, Five Below and Lee Nails.

“We are honored to partner with Mayor Dana Outlaw, Alderman Jeffrey Odham, Alderman Dallas Blackiston and the city of New Bern on a project that will drive economic development for the region,” said Abbitt Goodwin, partner at Columbia Development. “This $50 million investment in New Bern will be the center of retail gravity in the region, spurring additional development along the Highway 17 corridor. We’re excited to provide the residents of New Bern with a high-end shopping experience and we look forward to continuing economic growth for this wonderful city.”

Approximately 22,275 square feet of small shop space and 25,181 square feet of junior anchor space is still available for lease. Columbia Development is seeking unique specialty shops and boutiques, as well as restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream shops, wine bars and specialty fitness tenants for the remaining small shop space. The developer envisions fashion and houseware retailers for the remaining junior anchor space.
