Coming Together for Hope: Fundraising Event Aims to Ease Medical Burdens

On September 21st, 2024, Calvary Chapel Lexington will host a special 5K Run/Walk and Family Fun Day to raise funds for Brooke Corley, a beloved member of the local community who is currently battling a rare and aggressive form of sarcoma cancer. The event will kick off at 8:30 AM at Calvary Chapel Lexington and is open to participants of all ages and abilities.

Why We’re Running:

Brooke Corley, 21, has been a source of inspiration to many through her work as an Assistant Children’s Director at Calvary Chapel Lexington, her angelic voice leading worship on Sunday mornings, and her unwavering dedication to serving others. Brooke, along with her husband and brother, who both serve as Richland County Sheriffs, is deeply rooted in the community.

Earlier this year, after months of consultations with specialists at Prisma Health, MD Anderson, and Mayo Clinic, Brooke was diagnosed with a rare and unnamed sarcoma cancer, identified as an inflamed A-Typical Spindle Cell Mesenchymal Tumor. Due to the rarity and complexity of her condition, Brooke is receiving treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, one of the top cancer treatment facilities in the country.

“We are thankful to the Lord that we are one step closer to these tumors being out of Brooke’s body and that He has provided for us and guided us to the right doctors. The support, prayers, and love you have poured out over our girl mean the world to us,” shared Brooke’s family.

The costs associated with Brooke’s treatment, including travel, medical bills, and lodging, are significant. The proceeds from this 5K and Family Fun Day will go directly to Brooke and her family to help offset these expenses and allow them to focus on her recovery.

Join Us to Support Brooke:

“Brooke has always put others before herself, whether it’s through her work with children, her role in worship or her growing as a wife and a mother,” said Sierra Perkins, a childhood friend, former colleague at Calvary Chapel Lexington, and her now sister-in-law. “This event is a chance for all of us to give back to someone who has already given so much to our community.”

South Carolina is known for it’s hospitality and community, and the Lexington community is known for its generosity and support, and this event is an opportunity to give back to a family that has given so much. Whether you’re running, walking, or simply attending the Family Fun Day, your participation and donations will make a significant difference in Brooke’s journey to beat cancer.

For those unable to participate in person, we are excited to offer a virtual experience. You can participate from anywhere, and with your registration, a special event t-shirt will be mailed directly to you. This allows you to show your support for Brooke, no matter where you are.

Either way, we encourage everyone to support Brooke by praying for her whenever you see a bee this summer and fall, a symbol of her resilience and determination.
