Computerworld names Palmetto Heath one of 100 Best Places to Work in IT

June 12, 2017

IDG’s Computerworld announces Palmetto Health as a 2017 Best Places to Work in IT, one of 100 top organizations that challenge their IT staffs while providing great benefits and compensation. Organizations will be included in coverage in Computerworld along with results from the 24th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey. Palmetto Health ranks 20th among large organizations on the Best Places to Work in IT list.

Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Michelle Edwards is honored that Palmetto Health is listed once again, especially with all the challenges facing health care today. “Our team is involved in so many important system-wide initiatives, including implementing and supporting our population health and telehealth strategies, transitioning to Microsoft Office 365 solutions, implementing IT systems for the Palmetto Health–USC Medical Group, standing up an IT Governance model, implementing solutions and processes to mitigate risk as well as continue to enhance the revenue cycle, participate in strategy development and implementation for data analytics, and support critical patient safety and clinical quality initiatives. With so many priorities, it’s important for us to remain focused on the value IT brings to our organization, our care providers and, ultimately, our patients.”

Some of the unique attributes of Palmetto Health’s IT department that helped earn Computerworld’s award include:

  • Each team member feels he or she is vital to achieving the Palmetto Health’s Vision: “To be remembered by each patient as providing the care and compassion we want for our families and ourselves.”
  • Palmetto Health is focused on team member engagement with overall IT retention rate at 93 percent and employee engagement at the 94th percentile.
  • Realization that success can only be achieved in a collaborative environment welcoming creative ideas, thinking outside the box and supporting teamwork to embrace new partnerships, integration requirements and support models.
  • Palmetto Health’s One Palmetto initiative is focused on improving the patient experience while eliminating waste throughout the health care system and standardizing best practices, as a proactive response to national health care reform and ongoing reductions in reimbursement.
  • Recognition of outstanding employee performance through team meetings and messages on internal electronic bulletin boards, in employee forums announcements and in thank-you notes leaders send to team members.
  • The compassion that is exhibited every day by team members to help each other get through the tough times professionally and personally as well as the friendship, love and caring that shows through every day.

Edwards adds, “Receiving the award again this year showcases the compassion, strength, commitment and team work of our IT team. Together, we must meet the ongoing needs related to our strategic imperatives, our Pillar goals, our OnePalmetto projects and our Palmetto Health Experience.  I am privileged to work with a great team that is committed to delivering the highest quality care to our patients and their families.”

“As technology moves to the strategic center of every business, the ability of the enterprise to attract and retain skilled IT talent has become critically important,” says Ken Mingis, executive editor of Computerworld.  “The 100 organizations on our 2017 Best Places to Work in IT list keep their tech employees happy and engaged by offering generous salaries, top-notch benefits, continuous training and access to cutting-edge technologies. In empowering their tech workforce, these firms gain competitive advantage, and we applaud them for their achievements.”
