5% Day on Tuesday, April 7th

COLUMBIA, SC – The Congaree Land Trust (CLT) invites community members to show their support for land conservation by visiting the Crosshill Whole Foods Market in Columbia on Tuesday, April 7th for 5% Day.  On this day, Whole Foods Market will donate 5% of its net store sales to the Congaree Land Trust in support of their land conservation work in the Midlands!

Four times a year, the Crosshill Whole Foods Market, located at 702 Cross Hill Road at Fort Jackson Boulevard, donates 5% of the day’s net sales to a local non-profit that is selected by their staff. The Congaree Land Trust has been selected to be the featured non-profit on Tuesday, April 7th. CLT invites the community to buy their lunch at Whole Foods Market that day and join us for a 12:30 p.m. presentation by local naturalist, John Cely, who will be discussing the unique highlights and history of the COWASEE Basin, one of CLT’s major focus areas for land protection. John is the author of COWASEE Basin: The Green Heart of South Carolina, which provides an up-close look at this stunning area that is located only a few miles from downtown Columbia! The Congaree Land Trust will also have a staffed table in the café area throughout the day, with prize giveaways between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Congaree Land Trust is in its third decade of conserving South Carolina’s scenic lands and now protects 57,381 acres. The work of CLT helps preserve the visual landscape, keep the water and air cleaner by creating buffers around our Central South Carolina river systems, and make it possible for future generations to enjoy the same recreational and agricultural opportunities that we enjoy today. Founded in 1992, CLT works to provide conservation easements to private landowners in a 12 county area of central South Carolina that includes Bamberg, Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Sumter, and Williamsburg counties. Studies show that farming, forestry, outdoor recreation and tourism tied to our natural resources contribute approximately $54 billion to the state’s economy and provide 463,000 jobs. Conservation easements help protect the natural areas that fuel our state’s natural resource based economy and define our way of life.
