Councilwoman English, Sen. Jackson pair up for vaccine drive

Gift cards available for residents getting first dose; County resources also will be featured
County Councilwoman Cheryl English and state Sen. Darrell Jackson are teaming up for a COVID-19 vaccine drive in Lower Richland.
The event, set for 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 at C.R. Neal Dream Center, 2430 Atlas Road, Columbia, will give residents the chance to get the vaccine and learn about County services and projects.
“With this event, residents have another way to get vaccinated and keep themselves safe from COVID-19,” English said. “People will also be able to connect with County services and learn how to get involved in making Richland County an even better place to live.”
Prisma Health will administer the Pfizer vaccine to adults and children ages 5 and up who need their first or second dose. Those eligible for a booster shot or third dose can also receive one, per S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control guidelines. Gift cards will be available first-come, first-served to Richland County residents getting their first dose of the vaccine.
No appointment is needed to receive the vaccine, which is free and does not require insurance.
The event will also feature:
- Information on services and funding to assist minority business owners
- An educational program and seed giveaway from the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District
- Community resource information from the County’s Office of Community Development
- Voter registration
- Free masks and hand sanitizer
English (Council District 10) and Jackson (Senate District 21) will also be available by appointment for a meet and greet during the event. To make an appointment, call 803-576-2068.
In addition, Richland County staff will be on hand to speak about upcoming zoning changes with the rewritten Land Development Code and about proposed redistricting. Residents can view the newly drawn maps and ask questions about both processes. Staff with Richland County Public Safety, Lower Richland Community Crime Watch and Richland Library will also take part.
